From Thrill to Chill: Two Adventures on the Arkansas River

The lofty peaks of The Rocky Mountains demand your attention across much of Colorado. But at ground level, you've got the Centennial State's rivers, which can offer just as much adventure. The Arkansas River, which originates in the Colorado Rockies, is one of the most popular rivers in the entire country.

There’s something for everyone on the Arkansas River, and here at Arkansas River Tours, we aim to prove it.

If you’re looking for thrills, we offer wild white water rafting that will crank up the adrenaline.

If you’re looking for relaxation, we’ve got your back. Chill out in some calm water, surrounded by nature while fly fishing.

Arkansas River Tours offer expert guides in both rafting and fly fishing. Let’s take a closer look at each…

Looking for Thrills?

Whitewater rafting might be the perfect summer activity. On hot days, you can enjoy the sunshine along with the refreshing splash of rapids as you make your way through the water. You also get the best of both worlds when it comes to playing hard and relaxing—one minute, whitewater rapids will have you moving fast and getting splashed as you laugh with your raft-mates. The next minute, you’ll be floating down calm stretches of river, relaxing to the sweet sounds of nature.

If you’re up for a challenge paired with big thrills our Royal Gorge rafting trips are made for you. These trips include big waves and technical drops that will have your heart racing as fast as your raft. We recommend these trips for physically fit participants who are ready for some aggressive paddling. Everyone single person contributes to keeping the raft upright on Class IV+ rapids, so we need your full attention and enthusiasm on our Royal Gorge rafting trips.

If you’re looking for a little less thrill, we’ve got plenty of options that are less intense, even for little kids.

Looking to Relax?

The earliest written record of fly fishing comes from ancient Rome in 200 CE, in which a Roman nature writer describes fish on a nearby river, eating a wasp-like fly that would land on the surface of the water. Local fishermen saw this and, hoping to improve their catch, created an artificial fly made of wool and feathers, tricking the fish into striking with the first-ever dry flies. Dry fly fishing is still one of the most enjoyable and effective ways to land a catch.

There are few things as relaxing as standing on the banks of a peaceful river, surrounded by the soothing sounds of nature.

We have a special after-hours permit for our fly fishing trips, giving you the space to enjoy the river without noisy rafters floating by. You’re here for relaxation, and we ensure it.

Colorado is a great summer vacation destination, and we hope you add rafting and fishing trips to your list of adventure activities. As soon as you see the beautiful river and feel its relaxed summer vibes, you’ll fall in love with it just like we did.
